Organist

English G. Morris, Jr. is a Professional Lay Church Musician (organ and choral), Music Education Administrator, private piano and organ teacher, and business owner. He earned an organ performance degree and studied music at the graduate level at The University of South Carolina, as well as studying theology and pastoral counseling at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, San Francisco, California. English is the Founder and President of Carolina Music Academy, before its closing, a 45 year old community music school and conservatory. English has dedicated his entire life to the church music ministry, having served professionally for the past 57 consecutive years. He retired from full time employment in 2023 after serving for 36 years as Organist and Director of Music at St. Martin’s-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, Columbia, SC.

Mr. Morris became organist at St. John’s Episcopal Church (Shandon), Columbia, in 2025, returning to his first love, the organ, and to the parish church in which he was Confirmed in the Episcopal Church. He has twice served as Organist-in-Residence at York Minster Cathedral, York, England and completed a term as Visiting Organist at Canterbury Cathedral, Canterbury, England. Morris is married to the former Harriet Beacham Jervey of Columbia, his longtime partner in music ministry, and together they have two daughters and three grandchildren. While travel and listening to choirs are favorite pastimes, he also enjoys reading and fishing.
