On Sunday, May 12 we will be celebrating our 16 graduating seniors from St. John’s. This is a bittersweet day for our church family. We are proud to be sending off 16 bright, young adults on their next adventures, but sad to see them leave us.
In the two years I’ve been with St. John’s, in both my intern and full time capacity, I have watched many of these youth grow and accomplish great things. From leading diocesan youth events, to sports at school, to performances, to being involved in our parish life, this group has a great set of skills and talents to flourish in this next stage of their lives.
One of the most important things a youth program needs for success is a group of young people who are consistently involved and excited to be there. This church has been so blessed with this. These seniors have played a huge role in keeping our youth group alive. They have set such a great example for the youth coming up through the program behind them.
I encourage you all to keep these graduates in your prayers. Wish them good luck next time you see them! They will be moving away from the familiarity of their homes, and on to college. While very exciting, this can be nerve wracking. They will have the chance to meet new people, try new things, and create their own communities. While they will always have the support of their St. John’s family, they get the chance to figure things out on their own.
Our St. John’s community can be comforted to know that these youth understand how God wants us to love and care for each other. I believe that they will continue to make us proud.
