Jack Fleischer Memorial Fund 2022-2023

The Jack Fleischer Memorial Fund supports the youth of St. John’s in their participation in ministries Jack loved, particularly youth retreats. St. John’s youth attend the annual round of retreats, usually at Camp Gravatt, designed for different age groups, from fifth grade through high school, free of charge through grants made by the fund.

In 2022-2023, the JFMF paid for 23 youth participants to attend Converge, Happening, SMASH, New Beginnings, and the Bridge retreats at Camp Gravatt, though our diocesan youth ministry. Even more, the fund paid for 30 youth and adult retreat staff participants from St. John’s, who make the retreats possible. The fund’s support of St. John’s youth participation in these retreats amounted to $5910.

The JFMF came into being through many memorial donations made to the church at the time of Jack’s death in the summer of 2018. Since then, the fund has grown through continuing donations from individuals, the Men of St. John’s, and through a bequest from Lillian Sachs the Vestry added to the fund. The balance of the fund is $105,000, with a portion of it invested though the church endowment, so that it can be a perpetual support for St. John’s formation ministries.

In some other good news, the board of the fund recently voted to give $6000 to support St. John’s youth participating in the St. Cuthbert pilgrimage. That board includes Scott and Victoria Fleischer, Nicholas Beasley, Alex Cheek, Brandon Templeton, Michael Barker, Nicole Bell, Sarah Sawicki, and Kent Stiles. St. John’s gives thanks for the good work of the fund, remembers Jack in love, and invites your further support.
