Adults Ministry

In seeking to fulfill its mission “to educate and empower all into ministry and spiritual growth,” the Adult Formation ministry offers a variety of courses, activities, and opportunities for fellowship. It is their aim to provide offerings that appeal to the theologically diverse congregation and
advance each parishioner on his/her spiritual journey.

The Adult Formation Committee meets twice a year to plan for each semester’s line-up. Class descriptions and their locations are listed in the bulletin, the Epistle, and the website. Through the fall and again in the spring, parishioners gather each Wednesday night for a meal and program led by clergy. Additionally, special classes and seasonal events are available throughout the year. Programs may focus on issues such as marriage and parenting, or on a particular season such as Lent or Advent. Adult confirmation classes are offered at least once a year.

Adult Sunday School
Sunday School classes are conducted on Sunday mornings from September until May. Generally, three to four classes are offered each Sunday;  parishioners may attend the class of their choosing on any given Sunday.

Bible Study
St. John’s offers several opportunities for Bible study during the week: the Rector’s Bible Study on Monday mornings, a women’s class on Monday evenings; an early breakfast class for men on Tuesdays; and a Busy Women’s lunch class on Thursday.

Women of all ages are invited for a fun evening of fellowship at 6:30 the third Thursday of each month September through May. Meetings are hosted by members and a short program is provided.

Keenagers is a social group of mostly retirees that promotes companionship, fellowship and friendship among parishioners who are 50 or older. A regular monthly luncheon and program is held. Various day trips are offered to local and regional places of interest as well as extra activities, such as bridge.

Connections is a social group for married and singles in their 20s and 30s. The members take turns hosting a monthly meeting generally in their homes on the fourth Thursday of the month August through May. Newcomers and guests are welcome.

St. Monica’s and St. Bridget’s Guild
These  guilds were organized in 1962 and 1964; however, they have met as one for many years which has strengthened both guilds. Meetings are held from September-May on the second Thursday of the month at 1 pm in the parlor or multipurpose room. Light refreshments are served. Typically, there are socials in May and December. A visit with refreshments to shut-ins occurs in December. Most members are active in the Love In Action Ministry.
